Coordinated by John Putnam
Available to Members & Non-Members
John Putnam has been performing blues for over 30 years fronting his own trios and quartets as singer/guitarist since 1989. Mr. Putnam is proud to be performing with a variety of acts from the area including his own Blues Party as well as The Real Stormin' Norman, The Nawlins Funk Band and others. John has also performed with many local bands including Daylight Blues Band, Sippin' Whiskey, Radio Flyer, Sly Geralds, Pamela Betti and the Bluebloods, "Diamond" Joe Siddons, Black Cat Bone.
During his career, Mr. Putnam has been a studio arranger and guitarist, teacher, lounge pianist, and soundtrack composer for TV (WBZ Boston, WGBH Boston) and radio (WERS, WGBH). Recently two of John's commissioned pieces have been played at the last three graduations for Harvard and MIT. But the constant throughout his career has been playing the blues ... John has opened for such luminaries as Roy Buchanan, Bonnie Raitt, George Benson, John Lee Hooker, Duke Robilliard, John Mayall, Johnny Copeland, James Montgomery, James Cotton, Eddy Clearwater.
Charts and MP3s will be provided. In addition, John takes a hands-on approach in running the program. It's truly a learning experience. This group will stretch into the roots of the American Songbook. The group will refine & develop band skills, extending abilities to tune into each other with our 'eyes and ears' while enhancing the understanding of band dynamics.
Tunes covered at the first rehearsal:
Big Mama Thorton's version of Hound Dog,
Aretha's Don't Play That Song For Me,
Summertime,
Ray Charles Unchain My Heart,
Billie Holiday's God Bless The Child
Under Consideration: Aretha's I Never Loved a Man & Rock Steady, Dr. John's Right Place Wrong Time and Bonnie Raitt's Love Me Like A Man.
If time permits, the group will play some straight ahead blues as well & celebrate our work with a performance at The Bitter End.
